Dovetail

Trace customer feedback to service and product decisions

What they are doing

Dovetail is a customer intelligence platform for teams handling research interviews, sales conversations, support tickets, surveys, and reviews. It brings those records together so product, research, customer experience, sales, and marketing teams can investigate the same evidence. Projects organize research and generate reports; Channels analyze continuing feedback; Chat answers questions about the material. Findings can link back to the original customer evidence, giving someone a way to check the answer before acting. Dovetail product overview

The practical problem is scattered knowledge: a salesperson hears an objection, support receives related complaints, and the person changing the product sees neither. Dovetail’s approach is to make those connections visible and reusable across teams. Dovetail product overview

Latest project and updates

The current major release is Sun’s Out Launch ’26, announced July 14, 2026. It introduced Digital Twins, which use existing customer records to simulate a customer, segment, or persona in a conversation. The announcement also made AI Agents generally available on paid plans. Agents can run on schedules or events, use permitted tools, and hold write actions for human approval. A Digital Twin’s answer is generated from evidence; it is not a new response from the actual customer. July launch announcement

Channels 2.0 entered open beta on September 1, 2026, following its July closed beta. It turns feedback into ideas with owners, priorities, status, trends, and supporting quotes. Salesforce or HubSpot information can add account and revenue context. Existing Channels customers can opt in through the beta settings. Channels 2.0 open beta

The latest update verified by September 20 was data version history, released September 18. Users can restore or copy earlier versions after accidental edits. A September 14 update also added multi-column CSV analysis, keeping several survey answers together as one respondent’s evidence. These are released updates, while Channels 2.0 remains labeled beta. Why it matters to your business

Our practical interpretation is that this approach can help a service company identify recurring booking problems, an online shop compare delivery complaints with survey responses, or a small software team investigate repeated onboarding difficulties. The useful step is connecting a proposed change to the people and records behind it. Dovetail’s source links and feedback organization support that investigation; they do not establish that a small sample represents every customer. Product capabilities, Channels evidence and trends

Picture this

Imagine a repair company collecting 40 post-visit survey responses. Several customers mention unclear arrival windows, but others report satisfactory communication. The owner imports the survey, preserving each customer’s answers together, and asks for the comments about scheduling. They read the supporting responses, separate appointment reminders from actual late arrivals, and revise one confirmation message.

That is an illustrative workflow, not a Dovetail customer case study or tested result. The multi-column import capability would help preserve the surrounding answers instead of analyzing an isolated complaint. CSV import update

Where they are heading

Dovetail’s stated direction is broader than a research archive: continuously monitor customer signals, carry the resulting context into other work tools, and help teams take action. Its July platform announcement connects Digital Twins, Agents, integrations, and company-specific context to that goal. This is the company’s direction; the sources reviewed do not establish a dated next major launch. For a small business, our interpretation is that dependable evidence and a clear review process matter before expanding automation. Company platform announcement

Try the idea

Start with ten authorized feedback records and one question, such as “Where are customers confused about booking?” Keep the date, source, exact comment, proposed theme, and a link or record identifier. Ask your chosen AI to group themes, show supporting comments, and identify contradictions. Check the originals, choose one change to investigate, and record what remains unknown.

When the product itself may fit

Dovetail may fit when several people repeatedly analyze enough customer material to justify a shared platform. It is a weaker fit for occasional comments that an owner can review in a simple table, or when the business has too little relevant evidence to support its questions.

Costs and setup: The public pricing page lists a $0 Free plan, with no card required, including one project and one channel. Enterprise pricing is custom. The July announcement places Digital Twins and Agents on paid plans. Confirm the required features and quote before budgeting. Setup still includes selecting records, mapping fields, connecting accounts where needed, and deciding who can access or act on the data. Current pricing, Paid feature availability
